About this page

  • The twelve signs are grouped by element into fire, earth, air and water, and by mode into cardinal, fixed and mutable.
  • The date the Sun enters each sign shifts by about 1 day from year to year, so for a birth on a cusp day the time of birth decides the sign.
  • Your sun sign is only one part of a birth chart. Your rising and moon signs depend on your time and place of birth.

The readings on this page are traditional, for entertainment only, and not a basis for decisions.

How it is calculated

  1. Your sun sign depends on the Sun's apparent ecliptic longitude at birth: each sign is 30 degrees, starting from the March equinox (0 degrees Aries).
  2. The moment the Sun enters each sign is calculated with Astronomy Engine for each year. On a cusp day, the sign depends on that moment, shown in your browser's time zone.
  3. The zodiac sign dates table gives the most common date the Sun entered each sign in 1950–2020, in this region's standard time. In some years the date differs by 1 day.
  4. All calculations are done in your browser. The birth details you enter are not sent to any server and are saved only in this browser.
