About this quiz
- The questions are original to this website and are based on four areas often used in research on emotional intelligence. The test is for self-reflection and entertainment. It is not a psychological assessment or a standardised EQ test.
- Each answer scores 1 to 5. Questions 6, 9, 11, 12, 18 are scored in reverse. The total for 20 questions is from 20 to 100.
- The four levels are ranges of the total score, not a comparison with other people.
Scoring
- Each of the 20 questions scores 1 to 5, so the total is from 20 to 100. A higher score means you are better at knowing and managing your emotions, understanding others and handling relationships.
| Score | Result | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 20–54 | Developing | You have considerable room to improve in noticing and managing emotions and in understanding others. These skills can be developed with practice. |
| 55–69 | Moderate | In most situations you notice and manage your emotions and get on well with people. Under stress or in a conflict, however, your emotions can take over. |
| 70–84 | High | You understand and manage your own emotions well, notice how others feel and handle most social situations appropriately. |
| 85–100 | Very high | You are very aware of your own and other people's emotions. You stay calm under pressure and in conflict, and you help others settle their differences. |
